Flu Vaccine Reccomended to Pregnant Women When INSERT SAYS IT MAY BE DANGEROUS

(This is the smallprint insert that comes in the vaccine package
- ask your doctor to see this before getting injected)

It may surprise you to discover that the Inserts to most Flu vaccines clearly state that they might be dangerous to Pregnant or Breastfeeding women and their babies.

Despite saying this on the insert itself that comes with the vaccine, the CDC in America says:
"Pregnant? Get a Flu Shot!"
-- [ http://www.cdc.gov/features/pregnancyandflu/ ]

In Australia the NSW Health service hands out leaflets which say:

"Flu vaccine can be safely given to women.... at any stage during pregnancy." And they appear to promote and reccomend pregnant women to get a flu shot.

But if you read the inserts that come with most Flu vaccines you will find the truth:

FLUARIX INSERT:

-- [ http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/ApprovedProducts/UCM335392.pdf ]

"Safety and effectiveness of FLUARIX have not been established in pregnant women"

"There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, FLUARIX should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed."

"It is not known whether FLUARIX is excreted in human milk.
Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when FLUARIX
is administered to a nursing woman
"

'Caution should be exercised' ? what does that even mean? What, you inject the woman 'cautiously'? Maybe you stroke their head or something and that makes it OK?!

AFLURIA INSERT:

-- [ http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/ApprovedProducts/UCM263239.pdf ]

"Safety and effectiveness of AFLURIA have not been established in pregnant women or nursing mothers"

"There are, however, no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response,
AFLURIA should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed."

"AFLURIA has not been evaluated in nursing mothers. It is not known whether AFLURIA is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when AFLURIA is administered to a nursing woman."

Only if 'clearly needed'? I presume that means someone who might be very seriously sick if they got a flu, maybe someone with an immune disorder? So why does the CDC and Australian health agencies imply that ALL pregnant women should get a shot?

TO SUMMARISE:

1) FLU SHOTS ARE NOT KNOWN TO BE SAFE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN

2) FLU SHOTS SHOULD ONLY BE TAKEN BY A PREGNANT WOMAN IF THERE IS SOME CLEAR UNDERLYING NEED

3) A FLU SHOT MAY AFFECT A BREAST FEEDING BABY
